Volunteers deliver "Blizzard Meals" funded by the Madison Rotary Foundation

Volunteer Heather Roach delivers a "Blizzard Meal" to Bonnie Johnson
Despite the warm November temperatures winter is coming. To prepare for the possibility that weather could force cancellation of delivery to more than 300 elderly and disabled clients, Home Health United – Meals on Wheels volunteers began delivering "Blizzard Meals" Monday, Nov. 29.
The Madison Rotary Foundation Community Grants Program awarded a grant of $1,900 to purchase packages containing enough non-perishable food for two meals for each of our Meals on Wheels recipients for the winter of 2010-2011. The packages include items such as: canned meats, canned fruit, juice, and crackers.
Last winter the Blizzard Meals were delivered just in time for a major snowstorm that hit Madison the first week of December. Many businesses, government and university offices and even the Madison Metro bus system were closed. We cancelled our meal delivery and without the emergency meals, some of our recipients would have gone hungry.
Home Health United - Meals on Wheels delivers nutritious noon meals 365 days a year to elderly, disabled and homebound recipients in Middleton, Madison and Monona. Home Health United is dedicated to helping individuals remain as safe, healthy and independent as possible in their own home setting.
