Meals On Wheels Volunteers Deliver "Blizzard Meals" Funded by Madison Rotary Foundation

To prepare for the possibility that weather could force cancellation of delivery to more than 300 elderly and disabled clients, Home Health United - Meals On Wheels volunteers delivered "Blizzard Meals" along with regular meals in mid-November.
The Madison Rotary Foundation Community Grants Program awarded a grant of $1,900 to purchase packages containing enough non-perishable food for two meals for each of our Meals On Wheels recipients for the winter of 2011-2012. The packages include items such as: canned meats, canned fruit, juice and crackers.
Last winter the "Blizzard Meals" provided by the Madison Rotary Foundation ensured our Meals On Wheels recipients did not go hungry during the snowstorm that struck southern Wisconsin in early February 2011. The storm was so severe the Governor declared a state of emergency as over 18 inches of snow accumulated in the Madison area making it impossible for our volunteers to deliver their routes. Luckily our recipients had their "Blizzard Meals" to rely on as they waited out the storm.
Home Health United - Meals On Wheels delivers nutritious, noon-time meals 365 days a year to elderly and homebound recipients in Middleton, Madison and Monona. Home Health United is dedicated to helping individuals remain as safe, healthy and independent as possible in their own home setting.
